W-2 Copy A — Red Scannable Copy for SSA Submission

Copy A of Form W-2 is the copy an employer submits to the Social Security Administration to report wage and withholding information for the current tax year. This form (SKU BW2FED05) is preprinted in the red ink the SSA’s scanning equipment requires, and it holds two employees per sheet.

Per SSA specifications, Copy A does not carry a horizontal perforation between the two employee blocks on the sheet, unlike condensed employee-copy forms designed to be torn apart after printing. When ordering, count by the number of individual forms you need — not by the number of sheets — since each sheet produces two forms.

Load the blank sheets into a laser printer and generate Copy A directly from your payroll or accounting software; check that software for W-2 form compatibility before printing a full run for SSA submission.
